Thrilled to share news of my first nonfiction book! I've been fascinated by nurse logs ever since moving to the West Coast.

Now I get to share their magic with young readers!

This is a gorgeous nurse log on Spring Island, BC. Full of new life! Nurse logs shelter animals and insects and provide seedlings with a warmer, brighter place to grow. Their decomposing wood is a moisture store in hot summers, when the forest floor dries out and their hollow cores provide den and nesting space in the cold weather.
